Tiger Wheel & Tyre’s Tips to Keep Your Car in Shape During Lockdown

With all South Africa in lockdown, and the majority of vehicles parked for all but the most essential trips, Tiger Wheel & Tyre reminds motorists that even, and perhaps especially, when they are stationary for long periods of time, cars still need some TLC.

Here are the company’s top five tips to keep your car in shape during lockdown:

  1. Keep the battery charged. Start the car and let it idle for 15-20 minutes, at least once a week. Do this outside or keep your garage door wide open and any doors leading into the house firmly shut. Or disconnect the battery and connect it to a trickle charger, if you have one.

  1. Check your license disc expiry date! The only thing more tedious than lockdown is figuring out how to renew an expired license. Renew yours via your Tiger Advantage Plus Protect a benefit plan, or online through your local city council’s e-Services portal. There’s even a WhatsApp license payment service called ChatBack that will renew your license for a fee.

  1. Keep your tyres inflated. It’s not just driving, but the passage of time that makes air escape from tyres. If you’re able to inflate them at home, do that first before making essential trips or when lockdown ends and you return to work. Maintaining the correct tyre pressure avoids flat spots and protects the tyre’s sidewall from damage.

  1. Clean your car. Bird droppings, water stains and even dust can get baked into the paintwork, causing lasting damage. Washing your car will prevent this from happening, and besides it’s a great way to mix things up and pass the time during lockdown.

  1. Be safe in all the ways that count. Keep your vehicle in tip-top safe shape; drive safely; and when you’re out on essential trips, keep your distance from people you don’t live with, don’t touch your face, and wash your hands when you’re done.

Innovative Plan from Tiger Wheel & Tyre Protects Everything from Your Peace of Mind to Your Person

The brand that has been helping South Africans to safely and happily journey on, for more than 50 years, is offering an innovative plan that takes the hassle out of some of the less fun consequences of driving. Tiger Wheel & Tyre’s Tiger Advantage Plus Protecta plan will not only save you time and money, but also protect your person, and here’s how.

The value-added plan offers members six major benefits: Fines Protect; Licence Protect; Pothole Protect; Discount Benefit; Accident Protect; and Bail Protect.

Fines Protect gives you guaranteed discounts on traffic fines, along with a secure online fine payment facility that provides proof of settlement, to give you peace of mind for that next roadblock. Licence Protect, in turn, notifies you when your licence renewal is due, allows you to pay via a convenient channel, then delivers your renewed licence to you, free of charge.

With Pothole Protect in your corner, you could get back as much as 100% of the money you spend on repairs to pothole-damaged tyres. Similarly, Discount Benefit nets you some hefty discounts at Tiger Wheel & Tyre fitment centres, with 25% savings on wheel balancing, wheel alignment, and nitrogen tyre inflation, and 10% savings on automotive batteries. Best of all, this benefit has no waiting period, is valid for up to four vehicles, and can be used an unlimited number of times.

Accident Protect ensures that you get 100% of what the Road Accident Fund owes you, at no additional cost to you and in half the time it would take you to submit the claim yourself, plus you’ll get full medical, legal and administrative support.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Tiger Advantage Protecta protects your person with Bail Protect. Now you can rest assured, knowing that if you are arrested for a minor traffic offence, or any reason for that matter, your bail will be posted night or day, so you don’t have to spend time in jail.

All this timesaving, peace of mind and protection is yours for just R99 per month. Call 0861 200 400 and get covered today or visit the website www.twt.to to learn more.

New Year, New Decade, New Priorities: Resolve to Put Tyre Safety First

It’s a new year, new decade, and another chance to start anew with fresh resolve to change the things we can and move on from the things we can’t. In this spirit, Tiger Wheel & Tyre reminds motorists that tyre safety is the number one thing you can control on your vehicle and encourages you to make it a priority.

Tyre safety starts with three simple things:

  1. Properly inflated tyres. Always ensure tyres are inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended pressures. Properly inflated tyres not only affect vehicle safety and performance, but also last longer, and reduce your vehicle’s petrol consumption. Bonus tip: inflate your tyres with nitrogen for cooler running, longer lasting tyres.
  2. Sufficient tread depth. The minimum legal tread depth is 1mm, but you should replace your tyres before they wear as low as that. Insufficient tread will result in a marked drop in performance, in the form of increased braking distances, loss of traction, aquaplaning in wet conditions, and may result in a blowout.
  3. Regularly rotate, balance and align your wheels and tyres. Most manufacturers recommend you do this every 10 000km or more often if you notice signs of vibration, or the steering pulling to one side, and/or uneven tyre wear.

While you’re checking tyre pressures, tread depth, and general tyre health, don’t forget to check the spare tyre too! For more information and tips on tyres or to find your nearest Tiger Wheel & Tyre fitment centre, visit the website www.twt.to.
